The ongoing Entrepreneurship Development Program roll-out to the regions exercise, which started earlier this month in Mekele Town of Tigray State, drew to a close with the official launch of the Entrepreneurship Training Workshop (ETW), UNDP said.

A press statement UNDP sent to ENA on Wednesday said over 100 participants comprising university and TVET lecturers, entrepreneurs in micro and small enterprises (MSEs) as well as representatives from the State chamber of commerce are attending the training.

State Vice-President, Beyene Mekeru said on the occasion that the objective of the Program is to bring about transformational change that can unleash maximum potentials of MSEs by 2015.

UNDP Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Unit team leader, Eyob Tesfaye for his part said support rendered from the UNDP goes a step further and facilitates knowledge sharing amongst countries.

He said this month long entrepreneurship training has been headed by a group of experts from Ghana.

Over 400 aspiring and already established entrepreneurs, tertiary lecturers and delegates from regional economic organizations and cooperatives have now undergo training in Hawassa, Adama, Bahir Dar and Mekele.

Since the launch of the Program in February 2013 by Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, the Entrepreneurship Development Center has organized 12 trainings.

The Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC) is working with the UNDP to roll-out entrepreneurship training into regions across Ethiopia.

Overall, EDC aims to reach a total of 600,000 entrepreneurs particularly women and youth and also facilitate the establishment of 200,000 MSEs by 2015, according to the statement.
